First Weekend in Ireland

The first weekend in Ireland began for me, not in Dublin, but in another county called Meath, in a town called Trim. Trim is a beautiful town, which is far more country-like than Dublin, which is refreshing; after spending school days in a city, in Boston, then coming to Ireland and spending school days in Dublin, the city becomes too busy after a while. In Trim, I am staying with Neil Sweeney, whose family is very similar to mine, and we have had a great time this first weekend. The weekend began with soccer. Saturday morning, Neil had a match versus a team from another county, then during the afternoon we went on a walk around Trim and viewed the town's sights. On Sunday, we went to a Gaelic Football match, which was a great time.

Coming back to school on Monday, I heard stories about what various boys did over their weekends. Some went to soccer, and Gaelic matches, others met family and were introduced to the town, some traveled to Newgrange or Leopardstown, while others just hung out with their host families. The first weekend in Ireland has been an incredible experience, beginning with the inevitable awkwardness of meeting the family, to enjoying Sunday dinners with our new, close friends. I only hope that the rest of the adventure can be as much fun as these first few days, I’ve had an amazing time.
